B.R.O. 2 U members took part in the 3rd Annual Ties That Bind Ceremony at Columbus Preparatory School for Boys, the only all-male public school in the state of Ohio. This event welcomed the new class of sixth graders as well as recognized the accomplishments of scholars who have excelled academically in the previous school year. Guest speakers included Superintendent of Columbus City Schools, Dr. Gene Harris, and OSU Athletic Director, Gene Smith. They encouraged students to achieve their best in and out of the classroom. Principal Michael Owens gave a special acknowledgement to LFYO for our math and financial life skills program that was presented to scholars at the start of the 2011–2012 school year.

The ceremony concluded with a tie-tying presentation in the school’s courtyard. Community leaders and other distinguished men tied ties on incoming sixth grade scholars as an initiation rite, which symbolizes academic excellence, responsibility, discipline, respect, perseverance, and integrity. This heartwarming display by the mentors in attendance was captured by Monya in the following pictures . . .
