2012 LFYO Fundraising Gala – Hyde Park
The 2012 Fundraising Gala was held downtown at Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse. Guests enjoyed fine food and an assortment of delectable desserts, with a spectacular atmosphere and ambiance that only a five-star dining establishment can provide. Although we came up short in reaching our goal of $100,000, we still raised almost $73,000! After expenses of roughly $23,000, funds will be used to continue our efforts to create innovative content, provide college scholarships to students who come from low-to-moderate income families, and offer free programs and workshops for disadvantaged youth and communities, among others.
Former OSU basketball great and Master of Ceremonies, Jim Jackson, reflected on his speech at the 2011 Fundraising Gala, encouraging those in attendance to build upon the legacy of last year’s mantra: It takes a village of caring individuals to impact a child. His unique and inviting presentation mixed basketball, business, and a barrage of amusing stories about Lawrence back in the day to capture audience members.
OSU men’s basketball coach and Keynote Speaker, Thad Matta, discussed the importance of teaming up with LFYO to provide disadvantaged youth and communities with the needed resources to achieve personal and financial success. He highlighted the key attributes that makes every team successful, including discipline, excellence, and a champion spirit, which is the theme of LFYO’s new team of annual supporters, Funderburke’s Champions. Coach Matta’s down-to-earth personality and accessibility to those in attendance made the evening an even more unforgettable experience.
A special thank-you to those who made the 2012 LFYO Fundraising Gala another magical event … Hyde Park, Coach Thad Matta and his wife Barbara, Jim Jackson, Principal Michael Owens, our Superstar and All-Star Sponsors and their guests, photographer John Branham, and last but not least, LFYO’s gracious “team” of volunteers.
